GadgetTrak for Removable Media Devices

Note: GadgetTrak USB must be installed on a portable media device before it is stolen. We cannot track devices that have already been stolen without our software installed.

GadgetTrak USB is GadgetTrak's patent-pending theft recovery system for removable media devices. GadgetTrak USB software is installed on the storage device prior to being stolen. Supported devices include flash drives, digital cameras, SD memory cards, Amazon Kindle, iPods1, other MP3 players and other devices.

GadgetTrak USB is triggered when the storage device is accessed from a host system, or the user attempts to access specific files. When the agent is triggered, it communicates with our server transparently via an encrypted connection, even circumventing many common firewalls.

If the device has been reported stolen GadgetTrak USB collects information from host system. Data is delivered to GadgetTrak and a report is generated with the time, username, computer name, internal network address, location (country, state/region, city), ISP (Internet Provider Information) and other data that relates to that connection instance.

GadgetTrak Reporting

When a device is connected and tracking is enabled for that device reports are created with detailed information regarding that devices "activities" including a map of where the device has been connected over time.

1 Note to Mac users: For best performance with GadgetTrak iPods need to be formatted in FAT32 on a Windows system to work with both Windows and Mac systems. If an iPod is formatted for Mac, it will only work with a Mac, thus causing issues if the device is stolen and plugged into a PC. For more information visit Apple.com and read this FAQ.
